Rules
The competition would be open to students at Jacobs University Bremen, as well as to students at Universität Bremen. The aim would be to present them with current global business challenges, and encourage them to follow a future business career. The team must submit a business report fulfilling the requirements below. The applications will be reviewed by the jury and short-listed. The finalists would further develop their business reports from stage I, and submit their final versions. Also, for the final stage of the competition, the finalists would prepare and present in front of the jury and of the audience a presentation.
Team composition requirements:-
- The business case presentation must be developed by a team of 2 to 4 people;
- The members of the team should be fully enrolled at either Jacobs University Bremen or Universität Bremen, pursuing a bachelor, masters or PhD degree;
Participation stages:-
1. Stage I
The first stage of the competition would start with the presentation of "Das Viertel" Organization, which would provide the case to be analyzed. The presentation of "Das Viertel" would be followed by a short presentation with the theme "Innovation Management," held by Prof. Dr. Christoph Lattemann. Every team should attend the two presentations and then submit for the first stage of the competition a written report of maximum 3 pages. Additional pages can be used for appendices, but they will be directly judged on what information is included in the first 3 pages. The report should contain the following sections:
- Abstract: general idea- a summary of the paper;
- Problem(s): You can identify more problems in the beginning of your paper but do focus on solving one problem and explain why you chose it;
- Solution: Give feasible solutions to the problem chosen;
Further details:
- Name your document "TeamName_BusinessCase." Regarding the format properties of your document, Times New Roman, 12 pt font size, Justified Paragraph is preferred. Lines should be double-spaced. Pages should be numbered.
- Include a cover page with the title of the business case presentation, team members' names, and e-mail addresses.
2. Stage II
After the first stage of the competition all the participating teams would receive feedback from business specialists on their reports. Following a thorough selection, only a particular number of participating teams would qualify for the second stage of the competition. The qualified teams would have one week to submit their final updated business reports of maximum 8 pages. Additional pages can be used for appendices, but they will be directly judged on what information is included in the first 8 pages. The qualified teams would send their final reports to the jury, two days before the final event. Also, they need to prepare a presentation in any preferred format, in which they would include the main aspects included in the written report, and try to convey the information efficiently to the audience and to the jury. Each team has fifteen minutes to present their case analysis and recommendations. All team members must actively participate in the presentation phase, which is followed by a question and answer period of 5 minutes. All the finalists would receive feedback on their final reports and presentations from specialized experts. The winners would be announced during the Award Ceremony, following the competition.
Further details:
- If it is in electronic format, the presentation should be named "Team Name Presentation";
- All the finalist teams can choose a preferred type of presentation; they can use any available equipment that is necessary for their presentation;
Further Regulations:-
It is prohibited to:
- engage (as a team or the beneficiaries) in gambling or (stock exchange) speculations;
- Violate (or assist in violating) German laws and/or constitution or the ethical standards and values strived at on the Jacobs University Campus.
